MP for North East Hertfordshire, Sir Oliver Heald, has attacked Labour Party plans to scrap the New Homes Bonus, which is currently given to Councils by the Government when new homes are built. This money helps to finance new infrastructure to support the increased local population. Sir Oliver took this up in the House of Commons and challenged Hilary Benn MP, the Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary.
Sir Oliver told Mr Benn that “in Hertfordshire, we are facing a lot of new building of homes and we need infrastructure. If he deprives my council of the New Homes Bonus and its Community Infrastructure Levy, how will we provide for all these people in our part of the world? It just does not add up”. He also said that Labour’s policy meant that “we have to take the homes and he gets the bonus. What is fair about that?”
