Sir Oliver Heald MP backs Buntingford Town Council and Ashwell Parish Council in their concerns over local bus services. Buntingford is the only town in Sir Oliver’s North-East Hertfordshire constituency without a rail connection, and Hertfordshire County Council’s re-assessment of bus services could leave Buntingford less connected to the rest of the local area, making travel around Hertfordshire and to London more difficult.
In Ashwell, the 91 bus connects the village with Ashwell and Morden Station, but the County has announced plans to axe the evening service, leaving commuters coming home from work with a difficult journey home.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, ‘These local transport matters are very important. It is vital that Buntingford keeps its bus services, as the town does not have a railway line serving it. It would be difficult for local commuters, businesses, and the economy, and would make a simple trip into London harder. Ashwell, too, cannot be left with a bus service to the station in the morning only. To do so would force many into the use of private cars, which would further congest what is already a busy area. I urge the County to consider the Councils’ representations, which I support.’
