North East Hertfordshire MP Sir Oliver Heald attended the debate in support of a Bill to confirm that Britain is meeting the United Nations target of 0.7% of national income being spent on development aid.
Speaking in the debate, Sir Oliver pointed out that British support to the poorest countries in the world means that a child in need is vaccinated every two seconds and a life is saved every two minutes. The Bill was overwhelmingly supported.
After the Bill’s success, Sir Oliver Heald said “This will ensure that we continue to spend wisely on development. This is not only the right thing to do but as I said in the debate it means that Britain is developing future markets for its goods. As a lifelong supporter of Save The Children Fund, I was pleased to be able to support this measure.”
