Commenting Sir Oliver Heald said, "I have been pressing for years for widening works to made a priority. My constituents endure horrendous congestion and delays on a daily basis. It is a block to economic growth in Hertfordshire and something must be done. I am hoping the Roads Minister will finally listen to the MPs whose area are most affected by the intolerable situation we have at the moment."
Copy of letter:
Rt Hon. John Hayes MP FRSA
Minister of State
Department for Transport
I am writing to you to ask if it might be possible for you to have a meeting with me and other Hertfordshire MPs to raise the issue of the A1(M) in the county. I have been concerned for a number of years about the road between Stevenage and Welwyn, which has only two lanes, as opposed to three. Every morning and evening sees long queues, and this is a blight on one of the UK’s economic powerhouses. Hertfordshire makes a massive contribution to public sector funding in other parts of the country, and widening the A1(M) in this crucial area would assist local motorists, aid road haulage, and create a powerful strengthening of the local economy.
Would it, therefore, be possible to arrange a meeting with you and other Hertfordshire MPs to discuss this and see if you might be prepared to look into the matter?
