North East Herts MP Oliver Heald received a petition from campaigner Terry Hutt and Anna Greetham, Headteacher of Tannery Drift School at the House of Commons.
The petition contains more than one thousand signatures and calls for a crossing on Baldock Street, so that pupils from the other side of the road can cross safely. There was an accident at this spot last year.
Oliver has previously taken this matter up with Hertfordshire Highways, who felt that the site was not suitable for a crossing. Oliver promised Terry and Anna that he will take the matter up again and also see if it would be possible for a lollipop lady to be stationed there.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “This campaign is about ensuring people’s safety and I will certainly take the matter up again. It was good to be able to talk through the issues with Terry and Anna over a cup of coffee at the House of Commons.”
