North East Herts MP Sir Oliver Heald joined Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Air Vice-Marshal Alan Merriman, the Bishop of St Albans and members of the congregation of St Thomas’s to celebrate 80 years since the church was set up.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said “It was a great plesure to attend the special anniversary service and to hear about the history of St Thomas’s from its first beginnings as a mission church, specifically designed to be used also as a community hall, to its position today in the Parish of Wilbury with a vibrant congregation. The new church hall, which has been open some years, is used by a wide range of community groups and certainly serves its purpose as a centre for commmunity activities. I wish the church well for the next 80 years.”
