MP presses for return of club cricket

North East Herts MP Oliver Heald is pressing Ministers for an announcement on when club cricket can re-start. The Sports Minister has responded to a Parliamentary Question - see below.

'Officials are working very closely with the ECB on plans to deliver the safe return of club cricket as soon as possible. We are working at pace to shape guidance that will allow the safe return of competitive cricket and other team sports. Any shared sporting equipment may risk transmission, but these risks can be mitigated with good hygiene practice as being adopted across a wide range of sectors. I hope to make further progress on this in the coming weeks so that teams can enjoy a great cricketing summer.'

Commenting, Oliver said “Club cricket is extremely important in North East Hertfordshire and many constituents have questioned why other ball games, such as basketball, have been allowed to re-start but not cricket. I will continue to press for us to be able to watch cricket on our village greens as soon as possible.”
