Following his meeting with traders, North East Herts MP Oliver Heald was able to hold a meeting with the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation Officers Stuart Kenny, Marilyn Hands and Adrian Brace.
At the meeting, Oliver was able to put the concerns of the six traders he met recently from The Wynd, who still have concerns about their relocation packages. He was also able to raise issues concerning the Arena development.
The officers of the Foundation then went through the programme for relocation for existing independent retailers, pointing out the cases where packages had been agreed, those which were subject to proposals and the twelve which are still outstanding.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “I was glad to have this opportunity to put the traders’ concerns directly to Stuart Kenny and his team. Meetings are continuing between the Heritage Foundation and individual retailers and I am hopeful that the number with outstanding problems will now fall dramatically. I intend to have a further meeting with the Heritage Foundation in a month or so, and look forward to hearing about further progress with the relocation packages.
“It is vitally important that we retain the independent retailers in the town centre and also that Letchworth has the investment made, which is necessary to keep it abreast of neighbouring towns.”
