North East Herts MP Sir Oliver Heald has asked Govia Thameslink Railway and the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, for assurances about the future of Watton-at-Stone station. Concerns have arisen locally because the timetable for consultation shows bus services from Watton to Stevenage. This is because work to extend Stevenage platforms are behind schedule. Local residents have asked Sir Oliver if the future of the station is safe.
Commenting Sir Oliver said "I am confident that the future of Watton-at-Stone station is secure. It is a very important service for many local people working in London and in other places on the line. However there have been concerns raised locally and I have therefore contacted the rail company and the Secretary of State to ask for assurances about the future. I have also asked the Minister if he can help to speed up the station platform work at Stevenage.”
