North East Herts MP Oliver Heald this week met the co-ordinators of a community scheme to help residents in the Grange and Wilbury parts of Letchworth Garden City. Dave Mance explained the scheme to Oliver, which involves visits to all households in the area, pointing out what help is available through the benefits system, local community organizations, further education and via the Police. Residents have completed surveys highlighting the wide range of issues to improve this area of Letchworth Garden City and their own lives. Involved in the scheme are North Hertfordshire District Council, the Police, Fire Service, Hertfordshire County Council, North Herts Council for Voluntary Service, the NHS and North Herts College.
Oliver then visited the home of a local resident, Sharon Rutland, who has had help with her gardening as she is disabled.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “It was good to see our local services involved together in providing ways to improve lives in this part of the Garden City. I have known Dave Mance for a number of years from when he was a Police Officer and he is certainly co-ordinating this extremely effectively. It was also good that the local Fire Service and other agencies had really got behind the scheme and I was grateful to Inspector Jason Thorne for taking the time to brief me on the impact for anti-social behaviour.”
