North East Herts MP Oliver Heald attended the Second Reading Debate on the European Union Treaty Bill and voted against the Bill.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “This Bill brings the European Constitution into our law without a referendum. Before the 2005 General Election, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown promised the people that they would have their say on the changes in a referendum. Now they have gone back on that promise. Over the next few months, I shall continue to oppose the Treaty Bill and call for the referendum we were promised.
“Throughout the 2005 General Election, Labour politicians deflected questions about the Constitution by saying that there would be a referendum. Many Labour MPs were elected on this basis and are now voting to deny the public their right to vote.”
