North East Herts MP Oliver Heald took up residents’ concerns following the flooding incident in Jeffrey Close last month. In a response to Oliver Heald, Anglian Water have now said that they will add this length of sewer to their preventative maintenance programme with extra annual inspections and that they have also asked their representative from their FOG project (fats, oil and grease) to liaise with the local Environmental Health Department in order to ensure that local businesses do not discharge fats, oil and grease into the sewer irresponsibly.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “Not before time Anglian Water are now taking steps to ensure that the risks of flooding are reduced. It is important that local businesses discharge fats, oil and grease responsibly and this new initiative will make sure that everyone is aware of the situation. The additional monitoring and inspections should also help. I have been shocked that these floods have occurred and hope that these additional measures will avoid the misery for householders of further flooding incidents. I will continue to press for compensation for residents who have lost out due to flooding.”
