Oliver Heald the Conservative MP for North East Hertfordshire is joining the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Parliamentary Panel. This is a group of MPs and peers from across the political spectrum who care about maternity services. The panel will help and support the RCM in Parliament and be advocates for women and maternity services.
Oliver joins the panel following his attendance at a recent RCM event in Westminster to discuss maternity services.
Cathy Warwick, General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, said: “I am delighted that Oliver is joining our panel and really welcome his support.
“Great strides have been made in maternity provision over recent years with increasing choice and more midwives. We need to be building on this welcome progress and protecting maternity services for the future and, we are campaigning to make this happen. This is why it is so important that Oliver is lending his weight and influence to support and protect maternity services.”
The RCM pledge states: Women and their babies deserve excellent NHS maternity services, protecting the quality of care they receive must be a priority as important decisions are made on public spending, and I will speak out in favour of first-class maternity care for the people I represent.
The Royal College of Midwives is the voice of midwifery. We are the UK’s only trade union and professional organisation led by midwives for midwives. The vast majority of the midwifery profession are our members. The RCM promotes midwifery, quality maternity services and professional standards. We support and represent our members individually and collectively in all four UK countries. We influence on behalf of our members and for the interests of the women and families for which they care.
