North East Hertfordshire MP Oliver Heald has welcomed the Government’s announcement of an additional £175 million for high-quality cycling and walking infrastructure across England.
The new money will help fund low-traffic neighbourhoods, segregated cycle lanes and pedestrian improvements. Hertfordshire County Council will have access to £1,247,329 throughout phase 1 of the schemes roll out, increasing to £6,451,450 during the second phase of funding.
However, Councils will have to meet a set of tough new conditions in order to receive the funding. All schemes proposed will have to be properly consulted upon before any progression to receiving the funding is made.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said: “I welcome the Government’s announcement of an additional £175 million for cycling and walking infrastructure. These forms of travel are excellent for the environment and people’s health. They should be encouraged wherever possible.”
