MP for North East Hertfordshire, Sir Oliver Heald, is a long-term supporter of improved mental health provision, and is supporting a new Hertfordshire-based suicide prevention campaign run by Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Trust, in collaboration with the mental health charity Herts MIND Network, Public Health, GPs, and people with their own experiences of having felt suicidal or cared for someone who was. The Spot the Signs and Save a Life campaign aims to make everyone alert to the signs of suicidal thoughts and is asking people to make a pledge to take positive action to help prevent suicide.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “Improving mental health provision is vital and this important campaign is one that I am happy to support. With its aims of improving access and support for people at risk of suicide, increasing positive action on the part of individuals, raising social awareness, and increasing GPs’ confidence in picking up the warning signs, it will make a big difference. I urge everyone in North East Hertfordshire to visit http://www.hpft.nhs.uk/spot-the-signs/ to make their pledge and view the Spot the Signs & Save a Life information and materials.”
