Sir Oliver questions Prime Minister about rail chaos

During Prime Minister’s Questions, Sir Oliver Heald MP took the opportunity to highlight to Prime Minister Theresa May the ‘appalling’ rail service that constituents have had to face for seven weeks.

Yesterday, I pressed Jo Johnson in the Chamber of the House of Commons about the rail situation.

I later met Chris Grayling and raised Health & Safety concerns about overcrowding, the need for an early compensation announcement and the need for evening flyers to stop at Letchworth.

I wrote to the Transport Secretary yesterday expressing my concern that the service is going backwards in terms of capacity and reliability and I will be meeting him this evening.

MP welcomes suspension of First Class

Sir Oliver has welcomed the Rail Minister’s response to his call for First Class to be suspended until 15 July.  He has received the attached letter from the Minister, Jo Johnson MP.

 

MP has more talks with Secretary of State

Last night I met Chris Grayling again with neighbouring MPs to discuss the chaos on our railway. He had just had a meeting with GTR and had specifically raised our North East Herts concerns.

Train service still unacceptable/MPs' letter

Spoke to Chris Grayling at 8 o'clock this morning to reinforce that service is still unacceptable. He will press GTR at a meeting later today.

Have written with colleagues Heidi Allen and Johnathan Djanogly to GTR putting forward strong concerns. Letter attached.
