OnThursday 23 JuneI addressed the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on the role of Parliaments as guarantors of human rights. I had meetings with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr Thorbjorn Jagland and Deputy Secretary General, Ms Maud de Boer Buquicchio ahead of UK chairmanship commencing in November 2011. I also met with the President of the Council of Europe, Mr Mevlut Cavusoglu.
While visiting the European Court of Human Rights, I met with the President of the Court, Mr Jean-Paul Costa, Sir Nicolas Bratza and senior members of the Registry.
