North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has been approached by the Chief Executive of the Big Lottery Fund, Peter Wanless, to encourage Second World War veterans and their widows to apply to the Heroes Return programme before it closes.
Heroes Return provides funding to World War Two veterans from the UK, Channel Islands and Republic of Ireland for travel and accommodation costs to visit places where they saw active service. Trips must be taken before the end of 2010. Constituents who would like to apply should telephone 0845 0000121 or email

Commenting Oliver Heald said “I am pleased to support the Heroes Return programme and would urge constituents who qualify to apply before it closes. Veterans who have already taken trips but were unaware of Heroes Return can apply for retrospective funding until 31st January 2011. I understand that over 10,000 people have used the scheme and I would encourage constituents who want to, to get in touch with the scheme.”
