North East Herts MP Oliver Heald was Guest Speaker at the Hertfordshire County Council Scrutiny Panel Meeting, to discuss the condition of rivers in Hertfordshire. The Rivers Topic Group is chaired by Councillor David Andrews. Oliver spoke for a quarter of an hour about the condition of rivers in the County and the problems of over-abstraction and pollution. Also at the meeting were representatives of the Environment Agency, Water Companies, local campaign groups and experts.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “I am continuing my campaign to highlight the plight of English Chalk Rivers and those in Hertfordshire. I am delighted that the County Council is taking this issue so seriously and I hope that other Counties will do the same.”

There are seven chalk rivers in Oliver Heald’s Constituency, the Upper Rhea, the River Ivel, the River Ash at Buntingford, the River Rib at Little Hadham, the River Quin at Braughing, the River Mimram and the River Beane.
