North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has heard from Hugh Clancy, the Commercial Director of First Capital Connect, that there is to be further investigation as to how to replace the lifts at Letchworth Garden City Railway Station with modern passenger lifts. A Department for Transport decision is awaited.
Oliver has immediately written to the Secretary of State for Transport, demanding to know what the decision is.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “This story of the lifts at Letchworth Garden City is longer than Lord of The Rings and I know that local disabled groups are as frustrated as I am at the delays. However, the Government has promised that we will get modern lifts through the “Access for All” programme and I am continuing to press for action. This is an important issue for all those who have access problems, whether they have disabilities or need to use the station with a buggy or pram.”
