North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has found that there is a major imbalance in the number of intermediate care beds in the two halves of Hertfordshire.
Of the two PCTs that cover Hertfordshire, East & North Herts PCT (which includes Royston) has 127 intermediate care beds and West Herts PCT has 187 intermediate care beds.
Intermediate care beds are the sort of beds found at Royston Hospital. Commenting Oliver said, “I was surprised to discover that we have so few intermediate care beds in our half of County. Why is there a question mark over Royston Hospital when we have so few in our part of the county?”
Intermediate Care Beds are used for assessment, treatment and care that aims to rehabilitate older people who have been unwell.
