North East Hertfordshire MP, Oliver Heald, was at St Mary’s School in Royston on Friday to present a prestigious award to Head of IT, Miss Louise Moore. The BECTA (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) Award is given to schools which reach a high standard of technology learning and make high use of the IT available in the county. BECTA Inspectors visited the school and looked at projects done by each of the year groups.
On the Hertfordshire Learning Platform –
• St Mary’s is one of only six “Golden Hertfordshire Schools”
• St Mary’s has the most usage of the Learning Platform in the County
• St Mary’s boasts that one of their teachers has the highest number of log-ins in the whole County
• St Mary’s was the only primary school in Hertfordshire to have a video made about their usage of ICT, which will be shown to Hertfordshire schools’ ICT conferences
St Mary’s is now applying for a “BECTA Excellence Award”, which, if successful, means that they will be the only school in the County which has won that particular category.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, ""I was very impressed by the lead being given by St Mary's to schools throughout the county. For a small primary to gain this award is outstanding and a tribute to the hard work of the staff and pupils.”
