North East Herts MP Oliver Heald was delighted to be present at the dedication of the refurbished Ashwell United Reformed Church Hall on Sunday. Centrally located in Ashwell High Street, the hall is well-used by villagers for social events and a Christian fellowship meeting each Sunday morning at 10.45am.
The newly refurbished hall was opened by the moderator for the North Thames Area Reverend Andrew Prasad who also preached a sermon at the beginning of the ceremony.
The Church Elder who had managed the project, Mrs Jackie Embury, was presented with a bouquet in appreciation of 3 years’ hard work. Also present were County Councillor Tony Hunter and District Councillor Dave Levett.
Oliver commented, “This is a wonderful facility for Ashwell. I was pleased to have helped in a small way with the Church’s efforts to raise funds for the project. North Herts District Council and WREN made substantial grants and church members held a number of fund-raising events.”

The Hall
The newly refurbished hall is for hire: The hall has a small kitchen with kettle, urn, cooker, crockery, etc. Hall seats 80. Additional smaller room adjoining. There is also a stage. Please contact for Mrs Chris James, Church Secretary on 01462 742684 or chrisjames56@btinternet.com; or Mrs San Carswell on 01462 742757.
There is a small Christian fellowship meeting each Sunday morning at 10.45am, following a simple and straightforward pattern of worship: hymns and songs, Bible readings, prayers led by children and adults, an address, music by pipe organ. Church seats 250 and has sound amplification for the hard of hearing. Two small meeting rooms adjoin church.
Worship is led by visiting and local lay preachers. The children leave the service for their own activities in the Sunday School.
