North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has started the new Parliament by renewing his campaign for improvement in river quality. Oliver has previously tabled two EDMs on this subject which attracted the support of more than 100 MPs on each occasion. He instigated a Debate in the last Parliament, this Session he has already tabled four Questions to Ministers and today Oliver asked the Deputy Leader of the House, David Heath MP, for an urgent Debate on the Rivers of England.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “I pay tribute to WWF and the main angling organisations for their strong support of our local rivers, including the River Beane and River Mimram. Their campaign “Rivers on the Edge” has provided a national focus on river quality and I intend to continue to press this issue. It is vital that the habitat of water voles and white clawed crayfish, as well as many English wild flowers, should not be compromised by over-abstraction and pollution.”
