North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has raised his concerns about the proposed waste site on
Royston Road, Baldock to the County Council.
After receiving a large number of letters from concerned residents, Oliver responded to the County Council’s Waste Strategy Consultation and cited the “location of the site, its size and a number of other factors” as reasons why the
Royston Road site was unsuitable for waste handling.
Oliver commented, “I know the
Royston Road in Baldock very well and when I saw that the Council was consulting on a potential waste management site there I immediately had reservations. After so many local residents wrote in to me raising their concerns I decided to respond to the consultation and add my voice in saying “no” to this threat.”
Hertfordshire County Council are currently consulting on two documents, one which sets out its overall vision and objectives for waste planning in the county; and another which identifies sites and areas that are potentially suitable for waste management facilities.

Notes to Editors:
The new Waste Plan, which will cover the period 2011-2026, will set out the county council’s vision and objectives for the future treatment of waste and the policies and proposals necessary to achieve this vision, including identifying potential sites for future waste facilities and safeguarding existing facilities.
These policies and proposals will be set out in a collection of documents, which are collectively known as the Waste Development Framework. Hertfordshire County Council is consulting on two documents:
The Core Strategy and Development Policies Development Plan Document
This document sets out our overall vision and objectives for waste planning in the county and the broad locations where strategic waste facilities will be needed. It also contains detailed development policies that we will use when making decisions on waste planning applications.
The Site Specific Allocations Development Plan Document
This document identifies sites and areas that are potentially suitable for waste management facilities, based on an assessment of criteria. It includes maps and planning briefs for the development of specific sites.
The consultation on these documents started on 2 November 2009 and will run until 18 December 2009.
