Following representations from Alan Osborn, campaigner for the visually impaired in Letchworth, North East Herts MP Oliver Heald, has met Caroline Ellis of the RNIB to see new technology designed to help with the introduction of digital TV.
After being shown the latest advances in audio descriptive technology and discussing their development with Caroline, Oliver immediately tabled a number of Parliamentary Questions encouraging Ministers to take up the cause of the blind and visually impaired.
Oliver commented, “It is very important that the new digital technology is available to those with sight problems. It is amazing what technology can now do. With audio description people can now get a running commentary on dramas that would do credit to Match of the Day! There is also technology to provide digital teletext and talking menus for digital televisions. Having met Caroline I am now pressing ministers to make sure that this technology is made available to all those could benefit from it.”
