On Friday Oliver Heald MP unveiled the plaque at Letchworth Conservative Club to commemorate Basil Barrand, the Club’s President and former Membership Secretary, who died earlier this year. Mr Barrand worked for many years at Dents printers in Letchworth and was a popular local figure often seen riding his bicycle to the Conservative Club. He was always very dapper and enjoyed dancing. He knew all the Club’s members and their families.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, ”I have often enjoyed talking to Basil over many years and he was good company. He had a fantastic memory for people and faces and was a very popular character. He served the Conservative Club as an officer from 1981 and was hugely respected. I am delighted to unveil this plaque to his memory.”
