North East Herts MP Oliver Heald visited The Caravan Club site at Ashridge Farm, Baldock, recently and was able to see first-hand how The Caravan Club and caravanning is contributing to British tourism, particularly in the Hertfordshire area. The visit on Friday 19 March was part of an initiative to inform Members of Parliament of the importance of tourism to the UK economy by inviting them to visit Club sites across the country.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “Tourism is a major industry and brings jobs and prosperity. Locally visitors to Ashridge Farm Caravan Club Site spend £300,000 per annum in the community. I was very impressed by the high standards at Ashridge, which are the hallmark of The Caravan Club.”
Nick Lomas, Marketing Director at The Caravan Club, said: “The domestic tourism industry had an unprecedented opportunity to encourage holidaymakers to take breaks and holidays on home ground in 2009, and The Caravan Club saw an increase of half a million ‘bed nights’ on its sites network. We believe that 2010 is another year of opportunity for UK tourism, and we are encouraged by the participation of our Members of Parliament in British Tourism Week activities.”
