Today’s unemployment figures show an upward move in unemployment nationally, but the number of unemployed claimants in North East Hertfordshire constituency in December 2011 was 1,309. This represents a rate of 2.8% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 544th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. The number of claimants is 7 lower than in November 2011.*
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “It is very welcome that local employment is holding up so well in very difficult circumstances given Britain’s high level of debt and the measures being taken to put us back on track. It is a tribute to the skills of our local workforce and the strength of our companies in Hertfordshire.”
