North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has welcomed moves to provide 2,750 seats during the peak to services into King’s Cross.
Overcrowding has been a problem which Oliver has raised in the House of Commons on many occasions and also with representatives of First Capital Connect.
Oliver asked his most recent Question about overcrowding on our route on Monday 13 September, receiving a reply from Transport Minister Theresa Villiers MP, saying that First Capital Connect were working on the matter. Oliver has also recently had meetings with representatives of First Capital Connect, including Operations Director Jackie Townsend.
In the letter to Oliver, First Capital Connect explain that their More Seats for You programme means that the 8.34 service from Royston to King’s Cross will be strengthened from four cars to eight, the 7.20 service from Letchworth Garden City to King’s Cross will be strengthened from six cars to eight, the 17.22 service from King’s Cross will be doubled from four cars to eight, the 17.52 service from King’s Cross will call additionally at Baldock and Ashwell and the 17.44 service will call additionally at Royston and will be strengthened from eight cars to twelve cars.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “This is a long-standing campaign to improve overcrowding on our line and I am delighted that some progress is being made. The extra 2,750 seats will certainly help ease congestion.”
