North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has welcomed news of a further fall in the number of Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimants in his constituency. According to figures published by the Office of National Statistics, the number of unemployed claimants in North East Herts was 990 in December 2013 (representing a rate of 2.0% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64). This number is a fall of 46 in comparison to the numbers recorded in November 2013. The number of JSA claimants for the same period in 2012 was 395 higher.
Speaking about the news Oliver Heald said “I am greatly encouraged that the number of JSA claimants fell again last month. It is also very good news that there has been such a fall in the number of JSA claimants for the same period since 2012. Our local economy is showing continued signs of improvement resulting in more jobs. Long may this good progress continue.”
