North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has welcomed the news that the Heritage Lottery Fund has presented an award of £ 19,000 to Letchworth Arts Centre in the Garden City. This will be used to fund their project “Tour Towns”. This project will enable young people in North Hertfordshire to research, plan and deliver a range of historic tours designed as mobile phone applications based on different themes in four towns. Baldock, Letchworth, Hitchin and Royston will each have around four tours following walking, bus or cycle routes. The young people will initially act as tour guides but the mobile phone technology will also allow users to self guide around the trail.
Using money raised through the National Lottery, the Heritage Lottery Fund sustains a wide range of heritage for present and future generations to take part in, learn from and enjoy. From museums, parks and historic places to archaeology, natural environment and cultural traditions, HLF invests in every part of our diverse heritage.
HLF has supported over 30,000 projects, allocating £4.6billion across the UK, including £308million to over 3000 projects in the East of England alone.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “I was absolutely delighted to learn that the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded £ 19,000 to the Letchworth Arts Centre in my Constituency. This is fantastic news and I send my congratulations to all those involved in the preparation of the Arts Centre’s bid. Competition is extremely fierce for these funds but it is wonderful news that they will now be able to take forward their innovative plans for “Tour Towns”.
