North East Herts MP Oliver Heald was sad to see the collapse of Thomas Cook and the closure of the store in Letchworth. It was clear that the group had difficulties with high levels of debt against a background of a changing market for holidays.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said “I was sad to hear the news about the loss of Thomas Cook and that the Letchworth store has closed. If any member of staff would like my help, please contact me at oliver.heald.mp@parliament.uk Thomas Cook is the world’s oldest travel agent and it is a great pity that time has moved on and it has not been possible for this iconic brand to continue. I feel very sad for the workers and hope that they will be able to find new employment and receive their full employment benefits. The CAA are taking the lead in bringing passengers home and have a website thomascook.caa.co.uk which sets out the latest position.”
