North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has written to the Royston Police Inspector Jason Thorne, congratulating him and all the officers involved in the recent investigation which led to two illegal immigrants being jailed for large-scale cannabis cultivation in Royston.
In his letter, Oliver sets out his concern that these gangs are now targeting small market towns and expressed the appreciation of the residents of Royston that this activity was detected and stopped with appropriate jail sentences handed down. Oliver has also raised the question whether there are links to the discovery of similar illegal operations in other parts of the Eastern Region.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “It is disgraceful that these illegal immigrants are farming cannabis in a home in Royston and I am grateful to our local Police for capturing the gang involved and ensuring justice was done. It is worrying if these gangs are now targeting small market towns like Royston and I am also taking up with the Head of the UK Border Agency how it was that illegal immigrants were able to enter this country in the first place. I am also asking both the Police and the Home Office to check that there are no links to other illegal operations in the East.”
