MP for North East Hertfordshire, Sir Oliver Heald, has called for more families to consider fostering. Concerns have been raised after the Fostering Network released figures claiming that at least 640 new foster families are needed across the East of England during 2015, in order to provide loving and stable homes for record numbers of foster children. In 2013/14, nearly 5,000 children lived in foster care in the East of England.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “Without enough foster families willing and able to offer homes to these groups, some children will find themselves living a long way from family, friends, and their school. It could even result in some children being split from their siblings. I urge constituents to find details of fostering services and more information about fostering and becoming a foster carer at couldyoufoster.org.uk.
“I also wish to congratulate Lorraine Pascale, a celebrity chef and author, who has been appointed as the first Fostering Ambassador. Her appointment is the latest in a line of Government measures to promote adoption and fostering, and I wish her success in her important role.”
