MP for North-East Hertfordshire, Sir Oliver Heald, has congratulated the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust for winning one of the national 2014 Quality in Care Diabetes award, in honour of the Trust’s diabetes team being the first in the UK to develop a seven-day-a-week diabetes outreach team, consisting of both specialist doctors and nurses. The awards ceremony was held in Guildford last month, and hailed the benefits to the care of patients that this scheme has delivered.
The Trust’s diabetes team delivers seven-day, proactive ward rounds specifically targeting high-risk patients and delivering a comprehensive set of interventions. The latter includes patient education and direct clinical input, as well as access to smoking cessation and structured education programmes.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “I congratulate the Trust on this impressive award. Tackling public health issues like diabetes requires great imagination, determination, and persistence, and, in receiving this accolade, the diabetes team has demonstrated just that."
