Sir Oliver Heald, MP for North-East Hertfordshire, has secured an Adjournment Debate on 21st November in the House of Commons on the issue of roads in Hertfordshire, and the widening of the A1(M) between Welwyn and Stevenage. Adjournment debates happen at the end of a day’s sitting, and they last for half-an-hour. They present an opportunity for MPs to express their opinions on matters of local importance, and they always end with a reply from a Government Minister.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “I am delighted to have secured this debate for the people of Hertfordshire. Hertfordshire is one of the UK’s economic powerhouses, but some of its potential is being unrealised because of a congested road network. The A1(M) in particular sees bottlenecks and delays every morning and evening, and I believe that investment in the local infrastructure would give a boost to the local economy. I have already asked the Minister to hold a meeting with me and other Hertfordshire MPs on the subject, and this debate will allow me another opportunity to press the case for the people of Hertfordshire.”
