Sir Oliver Heald MP met Royston Cave Manager, James Robinson, to assess the water problem in the passageway leading to the Cave. The Royston Cave is a 13th century cave thought to have been used by the Knights Templar and the passageway leading to it is 17th century.
Water is pouring down from the ceiling about half way down the passageway and close to a manhole cover in Melbourn Street above, close to Royston Cross. Sir Oliver has immediately contacted Anglian Water asking if they can investigate whether the water is pooling around the manhole cover and seeping through in the cave passage.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “I have been very involved over many years to ensure the future of our Cave and am pleased that problems such as the worm infestation have finally been resolved. However, it is very worrying that water is now pouring through the passageway roof and I am pressing for Anglian Water to sort this out as a matter of urgency.”
