MP for North-East Hertfordshire, Sir Oliver Heald, has welcomed new figures showing that 827 fewer people in North-East Hertfordshire are now claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance since 2010 - a 54% drop. This means more people bringing home a regular pay packet, with the self-respect and sense of security that a good job brings. These figures represent 32 fewer people unemployed since last month, and 292 fewer since this time last year.
The number of women in work and female employment rate are both at a record high of 14.4 million and 68.2%.
In total nationally, a record 30.8 million people are now in work, up by 1.75 million since the last election. In the last year, 1,400 jobs were created every day. Pay is also now rising faster than inflation.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “This is yet more good news for our economy. It is a clear sign that the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working, delivering a more financially secure future for families. I am also delighted that this progress shows no signs of slowing – the number of job vacancies is 700,000 – rising by 127,000 in the last year alone.
“Next May, voters in North-East Hertfordshire will face a choice between the competence of sticking with the Conservatives’ plan which is delivering a more secure future for families - where more people have the self-respect and peace of mind that comes with a regular pay packet - or putting that all at risk with the economic chaos that a vote for one of the other parties would bring."
