The North East Group of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition met local MP Oliver Heald last week.
They urged him to do all that he can to support the Coalition Government’s Energy Security and Green Economy Bill when it comes before Parliament later this month, and to encourage the UK’s representatives at the Cancun International Climate Change talks in December to push hard for an ambitious, fair and binding global deal on Climate Change.
The meeting also discussed the need to support local households and organisations in their efforts to reduce energy consumption and increase the use of renewable energy sources.
After the meeting, Oliver Heald said, “I was pleased to meet this group of local people and I assured them that I very much share their concerns about the effects of Climate Change. I will be writing to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change to express my support for decisive action both domestically, through the new Energy Bill, and internationally, at the Cancun Climate Change Conference. I will also be very happy to lend my support to reasonable and viable local initiatives.”
