North East Herts MP Oliver Heald laid a wreath at the War Memorial in Letchworth Garden City on Sunday, took part in the Parade and later read a lesson at the Letchworth Free Church where the Remembrance Service was held.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “This was one of the best attended Remembrance Services in Letchworth I can remember. There were well over five hundred people there and it was marvellous to see the RAF Cadets and the Army Cadets marching together with the scouts, cubs and beaver scouts. The Salvation Army led the Parade with their usual expertise and it was good to hear such a fine band playing as we marched down Leys Avenue.
“Our forces in Afghanistan are in all our thoughts at present and I am sure that many people wanted to pay their respects and take part in the Act of Remembrance because of this. Talking to a number of Letchworth residents afterwards, they said that they had not previously attended a Remembrance Day Parade, but felt they wanted to this year to show support for our Forces and their loved ones.”
