North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has written to the Chief Executive of NHS Hertfordshire, Dr Jane Halpin, asking what the medium terms plans are for healthcare in Royston and if there will be a legacy in Royston from the sale of Royston Hospital.
Last week NHS Hertfordshire announced that a new care home would be built on the Royston Hospital site with NHS intermediate care beds also provided and that the Royston Health Centre would have a substantial extension to house the existing outpatient clinics. However, Royston is an expanding town with more homes planned and in the medium term, further health facilities will be required. Plans for the care home on the hospital site are to be developed by Hertfordshire County Council with private sector involvement. The site is reported to be worth £ 2.7 million.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “It is welcome news that the hospital clinics are to remain in the town at the health centre and that a new care home facility is to be built, but it is also important that plans are made for the medium term, as Royston is an expanding town. I am therefore asking NHS Hertfordshire to outline their plans for the medium term and to know if there will be a legacy for Royston from the sale of the hospital site, which can be used for the medium term.”
