North East Herts MP, Oliver Heald, has welcomed the measures outlined in the Cabinet Office’s recently published Giving White Paper to promote charitable giving by making it g it easier to donate. The new White Paper highlights the Local Giving September Match Campaign during which the Government will match every £1 donated by a member of public to charity through www.localgiving.com up to £500,000 and also the Community First Endowment Match Challenge which aims to raise £100M in donations from individuals and corporations to provide communities with social capital, further details about which can be found at www.communityfoundations.org.uk/working_in_partnership/community_first/ .
In addition to these measures, the Government has invested £10M in the Innovation in Giving Fund (which allows for a variety of platforms through which you can give to charitable causes), it has increased the number of tax incentives for charitable giving and legacies and it has raised the number of places available on the National Citizen Service to 30,000 which will rise to 90,000 by 2014. It has also invested £30M in the Transforming Local Infrastructure Fund and £20M in the Social Action Fund, both of which funds allow for more people to get involved in social action.
Commenting on the Giving White Paper, Oliver Heald said, “I fully support the measures outlined in the Paper. We should certainly be seeking to help others less fortunate than ourselves and this White Paper demonstrates the ways in which this is possible. I urge my constituents to become involved in the charitable activities available in North East Hertfordshire.”
