NE Herts MP Oliver Heald visited Jackie’s Drop In Centre, Broadway, Letchworth to see the work they do, to meet members, volunteers and visitors there.
The centre has approaching 400 members who visit the Centre to use facilities such as the Computer Room, Music facilities, to have lunch and meet others. Oliver enjoyed the Karaoke session with spirited renditions of the Tom Jones Mousse T classic “Sexbomb” and some of Elvis Presley’s top numbers.
Oliver has helped the Centre with previous campaigns for premises and their outfitting. They are supported by the Heritage Foundation’s Lease and NHDC Councillor Jean Green who joined Oliver there. Jackie Willis started the “Drop In” to help vulnerable people have somewhere to meet, socialise and find out about help available. Jackie’s family have helped decorate and fit out the Centre and volunteer there.
Oliver has been able to take up some issues about parking and future facilities, following his visit.
Commenting Oliver said:
“Jackie has put in a huge effort with her family to make a reality of her vision of a friendly place for people to meet, socialise and try out their skills in computing and music. There is a great relaxation room with sensory installations. She is ensuring that people do not feel isolated and make friends. She is also good at helping with useful information. I enjoyed the Karaoke session, where everyone seemed keen on Elvis and Tom Jones.”
